Product Reviews Privacy Policy

Product Reviews (“we”, “us”, “our” or “the App”) provides a product reviews widget allowing merchants to collect, manage, and display product reviews and ratings on their Shopify storefronts (“the Service”). This Privacy Policy describes how we collect, use, and share personal information when you install or use the App in connection with your Shopify-supported store.

This policy applies to merchants and their staff who install and use the App’s admin interface, as well as customers/visitors of the merchant's store who submit reviews through the storefront interface.

Personal Information the App Collects

1. Information Collected from Merchants
When you install the App, we are automatically able to access certain types of information from your Shopify account through Shopify’s APIs, including:

• Shopify Products API: To retrieve product details (product IDs, names, and handles) to link reviews and star ratings to the correct products.
• Shopify Shop / session details: To verify your store name, permanent domain, contact email, and locale, and to manage app installation, authentication, and subscription billing.

2. Information Collected from Store Customers and Visitors
To provide the review submission and display service, the App collects personal information directly from your customers when they write and submit a review on your storefront via the App's blocks/widgets. This information includes:

• Reviewer Name: To identify the author of the review on the storefront.
• Reviewer Email Address: To associate the review with a reviewer and prevent spam/abuse.
• Review Details: Review rating (star rating), review title, and review comments/description.

3. Other Information We Collect
In addition, we collect:

• Information you voluntarily provide when you contact us for technical or customer support (for example, your name, email address, and details about your support request).
• Technical logs and tracking details collected in the App's admin interface (applicable to merchants):
  • “Cookies”: We use cookies and similar technologies in the App’s admin interface to maintain your session and keep you authenticated while you use the App.
  • “Log files”: We collect technical logs related to your use of the App’s admin interface. These logs may include information such as your IP address, browser type, operating system, Internet service provider, referring/exit pages, date/time stamps, and error or performance data. We use this information for security, debugging, and performance monitoring.
  • “Web beacons,” “tags,” and “pixels”: We may use these technologies within the App’s admin interface to understand how you interact with the App (e.g., to identify which screens are used most frequently and to diagnose UI or performance issues).

We do not use cookies, pixels, or other tracking technologies on your storefront or on your store customers’ devices through this App.

How Do We Use Your Personal Information?

We use the personal information that we collect in order to provide the Service and operate the App. Specifically, we use this information to:

• Authenticate you (the merchant) and allow you to access and configure the App.
• Store, manage, and display customer reviews, ratings, and merchant replies on your storefront.
• Retrieve and map products so that the App can display the correct reviews for each product.
• Communicate with you, including sending important notices about the App or responding to your support inquiries.
• Verify billing and subscription status (for example, to confirm that your subscription is active).
• Monitor, maintain, and improve the App, including troubleshooting issues and analyzing performance.

We do not use your personal information or your customers' personal information for targeted advertising or remarketing, and we do not sell or rent personal information to third parties.

Sharing Your Personal Information

We do not share personal information with third parties except as necessary to provide the Service or to comply with the law. For example, we may share information with:

• Trusted service providers: Service providers that host our infrastructure (such as our database and web servers) or provide related IT and support services. These providers process personal information only on our behalf and under appropriate contractual and security safeguards.
• Legal Compliance: Government authorities, courts, or law enforcement if we are required to do so to comply with applicable laws and regulations, to respond to a subpoena, search warrant, or other lawful request for information, or to otherwise protect our rights, property, or safety, or the rights, property, or safety of others.

Behavioural Advertising

The App does not use personal information for targeted advertising, behavioural profiling, or remarketing.

Your Rights

Depending on where you are located, you or your customers may have certain rights with respect to personal information, including the right to request access to, correction of, or deletion of the personal information that we hold.

If you are a European resident (including residents of the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom), you have rights under applicable data protection laws, including:

• The right to access personal information that we hold.
• The right to request that personal information be corrected, updated, or deleted.
• The right to object to or restrict certain processing of personal information.

If you or your customers would like to exercise these rights, please contact us using the contact information below. We also support and process Shopify's mandatory GDPR/privacy webhooks (such as customer data request and erasure requests) to ensure compliance. Regardless of location, you can contact us with any requests or questions, and we will respond in accordance with applicable law.

Additionally, if you are a European resident, we note that we process your information in order to fulfill contracts we might have with you (for example, when you install and use the App) or otherwise to pursue our legitimate business interests described above. Please note that your information will be transferred outside of Europe, including to Canada and the United States.

Data Retention

For merchant accounts, we maintain your store’s configuration data and settings, products mapping, customer reviews, and review replies for as long as you use the App or until you ask us to delete this information.

When you uninstall the App, we automatically delete your associated store configurations, settings, customer reviews, and replies from our systems within a reasonable time period in compliance with Shopify's data retention and redaction requirements.

We also delete or redact customer personal details if we receive a valid deletion request from you, or via Shopify’s mandatory data protection webhooks (for example, in connection with GDPR/CPRA requests), subject to any legal obligations that require us to retain certain data.

Cross-Border Transfers

We may store and process your personal information in Canada, the United States, and other countries outside of your country of residence. These countries may have different data protection laws than those in your jurisdiction. Where required by law, we take steps to ensure that appropriate safeguards are in place to protect personal information when it is transferred internationally.

Changes

We may update this privacy policy from time to time in order to reflect, for example, changes to our practices, changes to the App, or for other operational, legal, or regulatory reasons. We will indicate the date of the latest revision at the top of this policy, and, where required by law, we will provide additional notice of material changes.
